The Darwin Green 2/3 vision
We are bringing forward an outline application for Darwin Green 2/3, North West Cambridge. This is part of a sustainable urban housing-led extension of Cambridge. The site forms an allocation in the recently adopted South Cambridgeshire Local Plan 2018.
The outline application will include provisions approximately 1,000 homes, 40% of which will be affordable subject to planning consent. A secondary school with land reserved for a primary school, public open space including a country park. There are also provisions for a community centre.
Houses will be sensitively designed to reflect the heritage of Cambridge across the range of diverse house and apartment types. This will include a mixture of 2, 2.5 and 3 storey buildings. In carefully selected locations building will be 3 or 4 storeys in height to provide focal points to assist in creating a diverse community.
The development is organised between green corridors which connect the country park and tie into the green spaces which are already being delivered by Darwin Green Phase 1.
Access to the development will be provided via a new priority junction on the Darwin Green 1 access road connecting with Histon Road. A primary road will then provide access to all areas of the site, which has been designed to keep traffic speeds low.
A public bus services connecting Darwin Green with the City centre will be provided with bus stops within 400 metres (5-minute walk) of every home. Discussions are currently underway with Stagecoach as to how best to provide this service.
We are looking to submit an application in early 2020 and are looking for your feedback which will be incorporated into the plans wherever possible.
A consultation event WAS held on Wednesday 18th September.
